Woodall Lane - Cut Through

Whilst looking at the view of Harthill's Old Rectory from Woodall, I noticed that the field towered above Woodall Lane.

I had to take a look so I walked around the edge of the field to take a closer look. I had never noticed this before whilst driving along Woodall Lane, however, when you stand in the field it is clear to see. This suggests that the road from Harthill to Woodall must have been dug out at some early period in history.

The photo above shows the roof of a car travelling along Woodall Lane that is well below the field itself on both sides of the road.
