Harthill's Original Road to Rotherham
Did you know that in 1605, the road to Rotherham was not along Hard Lane to Kiveton?
The actual route to Rotherham from Harthill was along the bridle path that runs off Hard Lane, past North Farm and down to the Sheep Wash Bridge.
In 1605 there was no bridge here across the Broad Bridge Dike, it was a ford that travellers had to negotiate to get to the other side. Travellers then headed across the fields to Woodall then to Wales and on to Rotherham.
